How To Run An Effective PPC Campaign

Tuesday, January 20, 2009

Using pay per click advertising is essential for any business looking to make money online. There are a number of factors that determine the success or failure of any AdWords campaigns.

In this article, I cover many of the basics associated with effective PPC advertising. Keep in mind that Google isn't the only provider of online advertising. None-the-less, Google AdWords is certainly the most popular.

Any good online campaign begins with clear objectives. Are you promoting your business? Asking users to fill out a form? Buy from a jump page? As they say, begin with the end in mind.

Once you've established the purpose of your campaign, keep in mind that the number of people seeing your online advertising depends on how well you've chosen your keywords. If you choose a set of unpopular keywords to trigger your PPC advertisement then you shouldn't expect your advertising to be shown very often.

Google AdWords provides a traffic estimator as a feature that can give you a sense of expected traffic. You should use this to determine your possible out of pocket costs and what you should expect to spend on a daily basis.

The most important elements of a Google AdWords campaign include:

• Keyword choice. Generally speaking the more targeted, the better. You'll get less clicks but they will be people who specifically want your product or service.
• Advertising headline and text. The headline is the most important of these. Make sure it relates to the keywords you are bidding on - this will help keep the cost of your advert down.
• Display URL. The more relevant this appears to be to the keywords you're bidding on, the better.
• Landing page URL. This needs to be relevant to your keywords and advert. If you're bidding on Britney Spears then you shouldn't be sending people to a page about nuclear physics. It's not relevant and Google will penalize you by charging a lot more for your clicks.
• Per-click Budget. How much are you willing to pay per click? Determine what you are willing to pay per conversion (lead or purchase) and estimate how many visitors it will take for a single conversion.
• Daily Budget. The amount of money you are willing to spend in a 24 hour period. Keep in mind that if you're making money, it's okay to spend money.

These are just some of the basics associated with creating a successful AdWords campaign. The truth of the matter is that being truly successful with Google AdWords takes knowledge and experience. The more you work with pay per click advertising, the better results you'll have.

There are tons of books, ebooks, and tools that are available online to help you succeed with your advertising. I recommend picking one up and learning about the components of a successful campaign. That said, nothing can replace the actual experience you get from running your own pay-per-click campaigns. It's easy to open an account on Google AdWords and costs very little to start. So don't delay and start building real world experience.

Making Money Online Anonymously

Monday, January 19, 2009

first up...

A big fat PR0 - yup - the big G finally slapped me good. Why?

Well when all your pages are reduced to the big goose egg it is usually a sign that they perceive you to be selling links. Am I selling links? Nope. But I can see how they might get the idea based on the amount of links I have on my homepage. I could write them and plead my case - I have a lot of friends and all my links are legit but I'm not going to. I have said this for ages - pagerank has nothing to do with serp rankings and perhaps dominating the MMO niche with a big fat PR0 site will get my point across in spades. For those who were concerned my serp rankings haven't changed and the SE traffic is still pouring in.

How this happened is likely the result of some "friend" who reported the site as selling links. You will find that dominating a popular niche is a constant battle with competitors and they will do whatever it takes to unseat you.

Which brings me back to keeping anonymous online. Yes I know this goes against every blogger's deepest desire - to get famous. The thing is I'm not a blogger - I'm an internet marketer and my goal is to make money. You make money by flying under the radar and I want to give you all a prime example of what I mean.

I don't post often. I get a lot of emails asking me to post more. There is a reason for not posting (aside from being lazy)... I make more money not posting.

Huh... wtf you say.

Tis' true... let me show you what I mean.

Some Adsense Secrets

This has taken a long time to decipher and I'm still not convinced that I have it right so don't take this as gospel but...

3000 ad impressions a day seems to be a magic number with Google.

The screenshot below shows my Adsense income for January (for this blog only) - the January 18 (today) total is not final as it shows my earnings early in the day when I took the shot.

After two months of lower than normal earnings (lack of advertiser competition I believe) my January earnings bounced back nicely and until a few days ago were on course for a new high with this blog.

Why A Membership Website Can Explode Your Income

Sunday, January 18, 2009

There are many different ways to make money online. You can sale affiliate products, physical goods, hawk your goods on e-bay or earn money as a freelancer. Only your imagination, knowledge and willingness to take a chance will limit your ability to be successful online. One of the best ways to earn a living online is to start and maintain a membership website. Starting a membership website is one way to multiple the profitability of your efforts. Instead of selling one e-book, a few articles or a product to one person, you are able to take those same “goods” and sell them to more then one person. This means less work and more money.

Let me give you an example. If you are a freelancer writer, you may be able to charge anywhere between $5-$10 for one article (depending on where you advertise, how good you are and the amount of experience that you have. For the purpose of this illustration, let’s say that you charge $5 an article. This means that you would be able to sell 10 articles for $50. On the other hand, if you started a content membership website, you could earn much more money with those same 10 articles. If you charged your members $5 a month for 10 articles and you had 100 members, you would be earning $500 for those same 10 articles instead of $50.

As you can see, it is possible to make a great deal of money by simply starting a membership website. Besides, the profitability, membership websites are pretty easy to start. If you have basic html skills, you can create a sales page and then a download page where your members can access their content and/or products.

You have a few options when it comes to payment processors. Two great choices are Paypal and Clickbank. Both companies allow you to bill your members on a monthly basis. You won’t have to worry about collecting payments, this is done for you. This makes things a ton easier and will prevent a lot of headaches.

There are a bunch of niches that would make for a great membership website. You simply need to find a subject that you believe people would be willing to pay money for. Then deliver top notch information. Some good niches might be centered around people who are battling addictions, want to make money online, are interested in losing weight or homeschooling. Any topic that you believe people would want to learn more about and be willing to pay information for would work.

Next, simply provide them with top notch information. You can create short reports or purchase PLR to products or other content that you think would be well received and add them to your membership website. Also, consider providing leads on discounts, sales or free resources. It is important to update your content on a consistent basis so make sure that you are committed to the process or you will have some angry customers on your hands.

Membership websites are a great way to make good money online. It does not take a great number of members for you to do pretty well for yourself financially. Consider if you charged $15 a month for your membership site and you had 100 members, you would be earning $1500 a month. Now say you created more membership sites, you could easily double or triple this amount. If the workload gets too big, simply outsource your tasks.

Membership sites can be a goldmine. They do however, require commitment and consistency. You have to be able to follow through. However, if you are willing, you can do very well for yourself.
